These pages are stored on the disc as PDF files. The free ADOBE READER program available for IBM, Apple, and Linux computers from www.adobe.com will display and print these files.
Please note: These PDF files are intended to display on a computer screen and print on paper. They are not intended for use on a telephone screen.
"Key" is the "concert," or C instrument key. If there is a key change in the tune, it is shown thus: Fm/F. If there are several key changes, they are shown thus: Bb-Ab. Exception: "Body and Soul," let's be reasonable.
Verse: "None" means no verse has been found for this tune, "Yes" means the verse is included in this book, and "No" means it is not included. Several tunes which never had a verse as such still have multiple strains. "Panama" and many polkas are examples.
Many older tunes, which modern jazz bands play as 2-beat or 4-beat tunes, were originally published as waltzes, or with a 2 or 4 beat verse and a waltz chorus. "My Gal Sal," "The Band Played On," "Saloon," and "While We Danced At The Mardi Gras" are examples. These tunes are presented in their original meters.
NOTE: While I am a banjoist, these lead sheets are not simplified. They are, in most cases, taken from the original piano/vocal scores.
With the 06 October 2018 edition of this fakebook, there is a change in the content of the disc. In addition to the lead sheets, a set of computer generated MP3 files of these tunes is included. They are strictly to give an idea of the melody of a completely unfamiliar tune. MP3 files are NOT "high-fidelity" to begin with and tempo adjustments to compensate for computer tempo errors significantly degrade their sound quality. Some of the files sound as if they were played on a cheap piano resting in a junk yard.
